Monday - Weds: You'll have time to work f2f with your partner.
Every Thursday: General Debate
Fridays will be writing sessions.
Topics:
Week One: Should the Euro be abolished?
Week Two: Should EU resources be used to "liberate" Libya?
Week Three: Is Immigration Destroying or Strengthening the Fabric of Europe?
Week Four: Do We Need a European Union?
Please sign up in the comments section below for bringing in food from your country. The UK has offered to bring in food for our first session; it would be great to have two other countries help out. Ideally, three countries per session should prepare food.
Remember to wear clothes/costume/symbols that help identify you as a representative of your country. You will also need a name badge with your correctly fashioned representative name.
During general debate, teams will be marked on the following:
1) Clear and coherent point of view and well supported logical arguments
2) Representation of the unique interests of the team's country and awareness of historical relations between governments as well as current interests with regard to left-leaning vs right-leaning governments
3) Clearly cited evidence and debate/discussion taken directly from the media, government sources, and considering the points-of-view of the work of politicians and governments as well as columnists and pundits both from American and European media outlets (ie you could be from Croatia and cite evidence in local newspapers and official government statements as well as what observers have to say in Le Monde and NY Times)
4) Clear demonstration of the nuances of the issue at hand
5) Ability to work in "real-time" accessing information and opinions from Twitter and social media outlets and analyzing them on the fly.
The team that scores highest each round will earn +2.5% on their term paper. (Yes, that means that if you win all four rounds, you could earn a whole letter grade increase). In the event that the percentage maxes out, the remainder will be added to previous Q4 work.
